Swedish Massage involves gentle effleurage strokes to warm up the body at the beginning of a treatment and to warm down at the end; Petrissage which involves squeezing and kneading the muscles; Superficial skin strokes; and Percussion movements which stimulate the body.

Generally plain base oil or talcum powder is applied to aid the flow of massage as opposed to essential oils used in Aromatherapy massage.  However some masseurs choose to use a ready mixed blend of aromatherapy oils to enhance the feeling of well-being.

The amount of pressure used varies greatly depending upon the condition being treated.  It can be used to relax and de-stress or to relieve pain and stiffness.  It is often used in conjunction with other therapies such as traditional Acupuncture.
